Carey was a fashion model. She is 5'10" tall and was well-liked by top American designers such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren as well as others. In 1979, the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists named her dad Scientist of the Year. Her father was a geologist and traveled around the world as part of his career. Following her graduation from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she began to model on the side. The idea caught the attention of an agent from Ford Model Agency New York. Following her move to France in the summer of 1999, where she lived in Paris, Bordeaux and New York, she decided to return home to New York and continue her training. Then, Vogue, Glamour and various other magazines included her on the covers. While modeling, she continued to study in full-time a major in literature in New York University. In the following years she began to develop an passion for acting. She studied at Neighborhood Playhouse New York. Her part was a minor one in Club Paradise with Robin Williams, in 1986. In her spare time, she enjoys skiing or windsurfing. She also enjoys climbing mountains as well as whitewater kayaking.
